DEL MAR, California, Feb. 15, 2018–Steffen Peters and Rosamunde made a comeback to top form to win the Adequan West Coast Dressage Festival CDI3* Grand Prix Thursday night to boost the partnership up the United States World Equestrian Games rankings behind only Laura Graves and Verdades.

In only the second international competition in the past 10 months, Steffen and the 11-year-old Rhinelander mare that was his backup Big Tour mount to Legolas through the 2016 Olympics, scored 74.522 per cent for the win and the best result in the past year.

“Rosie was awesome,” Steffen said after the ride. “A bunch of sevens for the extended and collected walk, feel like a gigantic accomplishment. All three piaffes were good as well.

“We are extremely excited about her comeback. I had a good feeling for the entire last week. I was hoping that she would stay this way for the show.

“And she did.”

Before Thursday’s Grand Prix, Steffen and Rosamunde that he began competing at international small tour four years ago and moved up to Grand Prix in 2015 were fifth in U.S. rankings for the World Games in Tryon, North Carolina in September. He was ranked fourth on Suppenkasper.

The successes on both horses are expected to see him selected to take Rosamunde and Suppenkasper to Europe over the summer to vie for one of four places on the American world championship team.

The victory by Steffen of neighboring San Diego and “Rosie” topped that of Sabine Schut-Kery of Thousand Oaks, California on Sanceo who scored 72.413 per cent and had been the leading California duo before this show, the last this year in the newly created circuit of four West Coast CDIs.

In the Word Cup Grand Prix earlier Thursday, Steffen rode Suppenkasper to their third straight CDI win on a score of 72.261 per cent. Suppenkasper was acquired by Four Winds Farm of Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang as another U.S. team prospect for their Rosamunde. Four Winds owned both Ravel, Steffen’s 2008 and 2012 Olympic mount, and Legolas that he won team bronze at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.

Charlotte Jorst of Reno, Nevada and Kastel’s Nintendo were third on 68.696 per cent.
