DEL MAR, California, Feb. 1, 2018–Californian Nick Wagman rode Don John to victory in the pair’s debut Big Tour, winning the Adequan West Coast Dressage Festival CDI3* Grand Prix Thursday. Nick and Ferano also captured the CDI3* Prix St. Georges.
Nick, based at nearby Rancho Santa Fe, and the 10-year-old KWPN gelding, scored 67.739 per cent for the win in the first competition for the pair this year and just two months since showing in their first Grand Prix, a national level event.
Nick first competed Don John (Johnson x Goodtimes) in 2013 and moved up national levels until 2015 when the duo began CDI small tour. The pair performed their first Grand Prix at a national show in December last year.
The partnership were the unanimous choice of the judges for first place.
Charlotte Jorst of Reno, Nevada on Kastel’s Akeem Foldager was second on 66.348 per cent with Terri Rocovich of Ramona, California and Uiver in third place on 63.413 per cent.
Nick and Ferano scored 69.353 per cent to win the Prix St. Georges, the fourth victory in five starts at small tour this year.
He has been competing the eight-year-old Dutch Warmblood for two years and competed in their first CDI small tour this year after showing in national events throughout 2017.
