AMSTERDAM, Jan. 26, 2018–World No. 1 Isabell Werth and Weihegold OLD rode to an easy victory in the Amsterdam World Cup Grand Prix Friday on her way to the Paris final to defend the title the German partnership won at Omaha last year.
The score of 80.217 per cent for Isabell and 13-year-old Oldenburg mare was the 11th time the pair breached the 80 per cent level and came despite errors in the line of of one-tempi changes that brought a smile to the face of the rider.
Isabell and Weihegold swept last year’s European Championship gold medals and since the 2016 Olympics has been beaten only once, by America’s Laura Graves and Verdades at Aachen, Germany last July who also was reserve champion at Omaha and has Paris in her sights.
German Olympic team mate Helen Lanehanenberg on Damsey FRH, owned by America’s Louise Leatherdale, placed second on 76.939 per cent with Sweden’s Patrik Kittel, the highest ranked rider in the Western European League, in third on Deja with 74.304 per cent.
