SEVILLE, Spain, Dec. 19, 2017–Spain’s participation in the World Young Horse Championships will be reserved exclusively for horses registered in the Purebred Spanish Horse Stud Book (PRE) or the Spanish Sport Horse Stud Book (CDE) beginning in 2018.

The changes were announced after meetings between Spain’s Equestrian Federation (RFHE) and members of the executive committee of the ANCCE and its Sports Commission.

The meeting were designed to find ways to comply with International Equestrian Federation (FEI) and World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) mandates for ANCCE and ANCADES to represent Spain in the championships in Ermelo, Netherlands Aug. 2-5, 2018.

Changes were sought after selection procedures in 2017 sparked controversy.

Participants in 2018 must meet WBFSH requirements of minimum scores of 75 per cent for five- and six-year-old horses and 70 per cent for seven-year-olds.
