LONDON, Dec. 12, 2017–Edward Gal and Glock’s Zonik won the Olympia World Cup Grand Prix Tuesday with a personal best result in the third Big Tour show for the pair with judges awarding widely different scores.
The Netherlands Olympic rider and the nine-year-old Danish Warmblood stallion scored 76.680 per cent and the fourth victory in five starts since beginning Big Tour in June this year. The previous best Grand Prix result was 75.780 per cent in the Netherlands in the pair’s Big Tour debut in the summer.
Four of the five judges agreed on placing the duo first with Australia’s Susan Hoevenaars the highest at 80.700 per cent but Stephen Clarke of Great Britain placing the pair third with a low score of 73.400 per cent.
Patrik Kittel and Delaunay OLD, on Sweden’s European Championship bronze medal team, scored 75.100 per cent for second place.
Madeleine Witte-Vrees and Cennin, on the Netherlands’ team at the Europeans and competing at the Omaha World Cup Final last April, were third on 73.720 per cent.
Emile Faurie riding Delatio in only their second Grand Prix on 72.860 per cent was the highest placed home pair in fourth.
