STOCKHOLM, Dec. 2, 2017–Isabell Werth on Emilio newly elevated to No. 3 in the world eked out a narrow victory over Denmark’s star Cathrine Dufour and Cassidy in the Saab Top Ten CDI5* Grand Prix Saturday.

Only 0.400 per cent separated Isabell on the 11-year-old Westfalen gelding with a score of 79.700 per cent and Cathrine and her 14-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding on 79.300 per cent.

Isabell on her Olympic team gold medal and world No. 1 Weihegold swept the three gold medals up for grabs at the European Championships in September with Cathrine and her Olympic partner winning team silver and individual and freestyle bronze medals.

Cathrine, 25 years old, and ranked N. 5 in the world on the horse she has grown up with since juniors, turned the tables a month later to take both the Grand Prix and the Freestyle at her home World Cup event. Isabell, on her sixth ranked Don Johnson FRH, was second.

Sweden’s Therese Nilshagen on Dante Weltino OLD placed third on 77.980 per cent in the first leg of the world’s single richest dressage company with total prize money of €158,000 (US$187,000) and a Volkswagen car for the Grand Prix and Freestyle.

Helen Langehanenberg and Damsey FRH, German team mates of Isabell’s at this summer’s Europeans, produced a personal best  77.760 per cent to place fourth. Damsey is a 15-year-old Hanoverian stallion that Helen began competing at Big Tour in April 2016 and stands 10th in the world. The horse is owned by Americans Louise Leatherdale of Leatherdale Farms in Long Lake, Minnesota and Susanne Meyer.

Patrik Kittel, the Swedish multi-Olympian and the driving force behind this event, rode Deja, his 2016 Olympic mount, to fifth place on 75.500 per cent.
