STUTTGART, Germany, Nov. 17, 2018–Isabell Werth and Weihegold OLD, the top partnership on the globe, won the German Masters World Cup Grand Prix Friday as she campaigns to defend the championship title won in Omaha in April.
Isabell and the 12-year-old Olympic team gold medal mare scored 82.080 per cent for the win the first competition since sweeping the gold medals at the European Championships three months ago. This was the 15th victory in 16 starts in the past 13 months, American Laura Graves on Verdades breaking the string by winning the CDIO5* Grand Prix Special in Aachen, Germany in July with Isabell and Weihegold placing second.
Isabell needs to compete in two World Cup qualifiers the horse she takes to the World Cup Final in Paris next April. Weihegold is the third mount competing in a qualifier so far this season, the other two being Emilio on which she is ranked No. 4 in the world and Don Johnson at No. 6.
Helen Langehanenberg on Damsey FRH posted a personal best 76.060 per cent for runner-up in a German sweep of the top three places.
The previous best for Helen and the 15-year-old Hanoverian stallion owned by Louise Leatherdale of Long Lake, Minnesota was 75.900 per cent posted in July.
Jessica von Bredow-Werndl on Zaire-E was third on 74.740 per cent.
The Grand Prix Freestyle to decide points for the World Cup Western European League standings is scheduled for Saturday.
