LEXINGTON, Kentucky, Nov. 10, 2017–Heather Blitz and Quatero captured the US Finals Intermediate I open championship Friday in the first appearance at this annual event of the eight-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding that has already racked up three CDI small tour victories.
Heather based in Wellington, Florida and Quatero scored 70.877 per cent, the only result above 70 per cent in the US Finals that stage separate championships of open and amateur divisions for combinations qualifying through regional championships across America.
Elma Garcia and Wenesa won the Int. I amateur championship on a score of 68.991 per cent in their second Finals.
Elma began competing the 15-year-old Hanoverian mare at national levels in California in 2011 and moved earlier this year to be near the Tryon International Equestrian Center in North Carolina. The pair competed at the 2016 Finals.
Kristy Truebenbach Lund of Wellington, Florida and Akvavit won the Grand Prix championship for amateurs on 64.800 per cent, a day after capturing the Int. II title on the 14-year-old Spanish gelding.
Melanie Montagano of Washington Township, New Jersey and Ga Deva won the open Grand Prix Championship with a score of 65.300 per cent.
