Three more Australian combinations this month earned the first World Equestrian Games results seeking to qualify for the short list to select the team for the world championships at Tryon, North Carolina next September. A total of nine pairs have now made the list with one of the required scores.

Two of the pairs receiving higher than the 69 per cent minimum at Grand Prix competed at the Boneo World Cup event in Australia while the third was at the season’s inaugural Western European League World Cup in Herning, Denmark.

Kristy Oatley on her 2016 Olympic team partner Du Soleil scored 69.520 per cent. Based in Germany, she has ridden for Australia at four Olympics and three World Games as well as other international championships.

Judy Dierks on Diamond Star won the Grand Prix at Boneo with a score of 69.300 per cent while Brett Parbery on DP Weltmieser placed second with 69.060 per cent, both scores meeting the qualifying threshold.

Brett competed at the World Games in Kentucky and the World Cup Final in the Netherlands in 2010.

Judy and Diamond Star have posted six victories in Big Tour events in Australia in the past 2 1/2 years.

Equestrian Australia requires combinations to compete in at least three pre-selection events–one must be in 2018–and achieve a minimum of two so-called threshold scores of 69 per cent by April 30 in Australia and Europe and a month earlier in North America.

For the actual selection events, combinations are required to compete at a minimum of three designated competitions with Grand Prix results counting. Those events,  designated by the Australian federation in which prospective team combinations are required to compete for a place on the four-member team.
