HERNING, Denmark, Oct. 22, 2017–Cathrine Dufour and Cassidy rode a personal best musical performance to win the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday and post a double victory over German superstar Isabell Werth on Don Johnson FRH.
The Danish Olympic team partnership of Cathrine and the 14-year-old Danish Warmblood were awarded 85.945 per cent in the Western European season-opening World Cup series leading to the final in Paris next April. The result beat their previous highest freestyle mark of 84.561 per cent set at the European Championships two months ago when the pair led Denmark to team bronze and won two individual bronze medals.
The five judges were unanimous in placing Cathrine and Cassidy, a partnership from youngsters to No. 7 in the world, in first place. The pair won the Grand Prix Saturday, her first ever victory over Isabell who is ranked No. 1 on Weihegold OLD, No. 4 on Emilio and No. 6 on Don Johnson.
Isabell, the most decorated Olympic equestrian in history who competed here at the start of her campaign to defend the title she won in Omaha this year, was second on 83.755 per cent. She has three World Cup titles to her name.
Patrik Kittel on Delaunay OLD placed third on 81.095 per cent, also a personal best for Sweden’s muti Olympic rider and the 11-year-old Oldenburg gelding. The result earned the pair 17 points that added to 20 points won competing earlier in Central Europe put the German-based rider at the top of the Western European League standings.
Cathrine, who took the winner’s 20 points, said she did not intend to campaign for a start in Paris, but to focus on the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina next September.
”Wauv what an arena – it is just crazy,” she said. “And what a fantastic ride I had. Cassidy can be a bit on the edge, especially in an indoor arena, but he was there with me, all the time. And beating Isabell Werth was fantastic , even though she did not bring her top horse Weihegold. And to beat my own personal record again–cool! Let us see what the season brings.
“Our next big goal is definitely the World Equestrian Games in September.”
Daniel Bachmann Andersen and Blue Hors Zack also logged a personal best score of 80.305 per cent for fourth place providing Denmark with another top team contender. Daniel and the 13-year-old Danish Warmblood stallion began Big Tour in March this year and Sunday’s score was the highest in the five freestyle performed since then.
