LE MANS, France, Oct. 19, 2017–Anders Dahl and Selten HW posted their highest score of the year to win the CDI3* Grand Prix Thursday and edging past Catherine Haddad-Staller and Semper Fidelis in only the second international competition for the American pair.
Anders and Selten, based in England and who competed for Denmark at the 2016 Rio Olympics, scored 72.780 per cent for the win.
There were big disparities in the judges’ marks for Anders and the American-bred and triple U.S. young horse champion–one at 75 per cent, two at 74 per cent and the fourth at 73.300 per cent, but Elizabeth McMullen of Canada at C gave 67.500 per cent ranking the pair 10th. At this event a year ago, Anders and the American-bred and triple U.S. young horse champion won both the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Special.
In their first indoor competition, Catherine and Semper Fidelis, an 11-year-old Oldenburg mare, scored 72.400 per cent Thursday, edging past the 72.240 per cent posted in their Big Tour debut less than a month ago that was an outdoor event in Germany. The duo were fourth to go in lineup Thursday and had to wait through the total of 40 starting combinations from 14 nations before the duo’s runner-up placing was confirmed.
France’s Nicole Favereau and Ginsengue placed third on 70.140 per cent.
Catherine Haddad-Staller, based in Califon, New Jersey in summer and Loxahatchee, Florida in winter, began riding Semper Fidelis ((Sir Donnerhall x Welt Hit II) last year. The horse is owned by Rowan O’Riley, a sponsor of Catherine for the past 2 1/2 years.
