TALLINN, Estonia, Oct. 7, 2017–Dina Ellermann and Landy’s Akvarel produced a personal best score to win the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday, the first victory for the Estonian team pair in the 2017-18 series of the annual championship. Hanna Karasiova of Belarus on Arlekino placed second to boost the pair to the top of the Central European League standings.
Dina and the 14-year-old Estonian-bred mare scored 72.235 per cent that earned the duo 20 points for the first win this year and brings their total to 35.
However, Hanna Karasiova on Arlekino, an 11-year-old Latvian-bred gelding that competed at the World Cup Final in Omaha in March as well as the European Championships last month, was awarded 71.110 per cent for second place. The 17 points won here gave the duo a total of 71 and the top ranking with two more qualifiers remaining in Central Europe.
Central Europe gets to send two combinations to the final in Paris next April. Russia’s Inessa Merkulova is second in the rankings behind Hanna.
Sweden’s Gunilla Byström on Vectra was third on 70.180 per cent and takes her 15 points back to the Western European League that begins its winter circuit this month.
The next Central European qualifier is in Zakrzow, Poland at the end of the month.
