MOSCOW, SEPT. 23, 2017–Inessa Merkulova and Mister X, ranked No. 9 in the world, won the World Cup Grand Prix Saturday in the Russian’s campaign for a start in their fifth final.
Inessa and the 13-year-old Russian-bred Trakehner gelding scored 76.740 per cent for the win. The pair competed at the 2016 Olympics, the 2014 World Games and the 2015 and 2017 European Championships as well as the last four finals of the annual World Cup.
The duo is atop the Central European League standings with more points up for grabs in the freestyle Sunday to earn one of two places at the Paris final next April.
Stanislav Cherednichenko, 26 years old, who took over competing Vosk this year placed second on a personal best 70.520 per cent. The pair were on Russia’s team at the European Championships last month.
Inessa and Avans were third on 70.180 per cent.
