ERMELO, Netherlands, Aug. 5, 2017–Fiontini and Severo Jurado Lopez won the World Seven-Year-Old Horse Championship Saturday to clinch the hat trick of global young horse titles. The sale of Fiontini was disclosed after the awards but Severo said he expects to continue to compete the horse.
Fiontini, a Danish Warmblood mare (Fassbinder x Romanov) and the Spanish rider were awarded 85.656 per cent for the win in the second year of the seven-year-old championship. Germany’s Dorothee Schneider and Sezuan completed the triple in 2016, the inaugural year.
Fiontini won the 5-year-old title in Verden, Germany and the six-year-old here in 2016.
Sultan des Paluds was ridden by the Netherlands Kirsten Brouwer placed second on 83.515 per cent with the Trakehner gelding Kipling ridden by Anne Troensegaard of Denmark third on 82.445 per cent.
