MADRID, June 1, 2017–The Florida-based Juan Matute, Jr. won the Under-25 Intermediate II on Don Diego Ymas and the Young Rider team competition on Dhannie Ymas Thursday to kick off the Spanish Championships.

Juan, the 19-year-old son of Spain’s multi-Olympian Juan Matute who moved to Wellington, Florida six years ago, rode the 14-year-old Don Diego Ymas to the Under-25 victory with a score of 71.474 per cent. On Don Diego, he is ranked No. 5 in the world in the Under-25 division.

He also competes at Big Tour but has opted to focus on the Under-25 division where he plans to compete in the European Championships in August.
