WINDSOR, England, May 12, 2017–Carl Hester and Baro won the Royal Windsor CDI4* Grand Prix Freestyle Friday night, the second victory in only two performances for the British Olympic team gold medalist and the 11-year-old Hanoverian gelding.
Carl, in the first show since placing third in the Omaha World Cup Final on his Olympic mount Nip Tuck, rode Barolo to a score of 79.850 per cent under lights before packed spectator stands. The pair won the Grand Prix Thursday in the first competition since Charlotte Dujardin rode Barolo in the horse’s first Big Tour events in Spain and England more than a year ago.
The freestyle was Charlotte and Valegro’s first music “How to train your Dragon.”
“He’s a chilled horse and a quiet, soft lovely moving horse and didn’t make any mistakes,” Carl said. “He is so loose and elastic at times you feel like you are riding on a trampoline but he can really show his paces.”
Great Britain’s Hayley Watson-Greaves on the spectacular British-bred Rubin’s Nite on 76.725 per cent were second, the same placing as in the Grand Prix. Gareth Hughes on Don Carissimo was third on 76.675 per cent.
