GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Feb. 23, 2017–Isabell Werth rode Emilio to a score of 81.080 per cent in the World Cup Grand Prix Thursday, the first rider in history to achieve at least 80 per cent at Grand Prix on three different horses.

The equestrian with 10 Olympic medals, more than any other rider, has scored at least 80 per cent on Bella Rose, Weihegold OLD and now Emilio. Prior to this, she and Edward Gal had each scored 80 per cent on two different horses.

Although Isabell is No. 1 in the world on Weihegold as well as at the top of the World Cup Western European League for the Final in Omaha at the end of next month, the German rider is competing Emilio as a backup.

Patrik Kittel of Sweden on Delaunay placed second on 75.060 per cent with Germany’s Jessica von Bredow Werndl on Unee BB, her 2015 World Cup bronze medal mount, third on 74.500 per cent.

Isabell, has competed the 11-year-old Westfalen gelding at Grand Prix for less than 18 months. Their previous best Grand Prix result was 78.960 per cent in Fritzens, Austria last July.

At the age of 47 and a mother, Isabell has racked up a record unsurpassed in dressage. In addition to the 10 medals in five Olympics, is a two-time World Cup champion nad has won multiple medals at numerous World Games and European Championships.

She will present a Dressage Showcase at the Omaha World Cup displaying her training methods from young horses through Grand Prix.

Her first Grand Prix 80 per cent was in 2014 on Bella Rose, a Westfalen mare then 10 years old. The horse has been out of competition since shortly after the 2014 World Games in Normandy but Isabell has hopes to bring her back into the show arena later this year.

Weihegold, the Oldenburg mare now 12 years old on which she rode for team gold and individual silver at last summer’s Olympics and is ranked No. 1 in the world, made her entry into the “80% Club” one year ago.
