SALZBURG, Austria, Dec. 11, 2016–Dorothee Schneider and Showtime FRH captured the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday in the first competition for the pair since the Rio Olympic team gold medal performance for the world’s third ranked combination.
The German two-time Olympian and the 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding scored 85.292 per cent, second only to the score of 86.925 per cent posted at the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany five months ago.
In the fourth of nine Western European League qualifiers leading to the Final in Omaha Mar. 27-April 2, the duo earned the maximum of 20 points for their first World Cup event in 18 months of Big Tour competition.
The musical performance came a day after logging their third straight 80 per cent Grand Prix score and Dorothee said the horse has more to give.
“He’s young and needs a little bit more power,but he has so much rhythm and energy and I know we can improve,” she said.
Spain’s Olympic partnership of Severo Jurado Lopez on the 10-year-old Lorenzo was runner-up on 80.273 per cent and Germany’s Jessica von Bredow-Werndl on Unee BB third on 79.275 per cent.
Australia’s Kristy Oatley on Du Soleil, her Olympic mount, placed sixth with a personal best 76.998 per cent to earn 11 points to move back to the top of the Western European League with 44 points.
London Olympia next Tuesday and Wednesday is the next WEL World Cup event.
