STOCKHOLM, Nov. 26, 2016–Isabell Werth rode Don Johnson FRH to a personal best score to win the Sweden International Horse Show CDI5* Grand Prix Saturday in only the second competition for the horse this year.

Isabell and the 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding scored 78.180 per cent that was 0.480 per higher than the 77.700 that was the previous best for the pair posted a year ago. The duo competed earlier this month to notch a victory in what was their first show this year.

Since starting Big Tour in March 2011, “Johnny,” as she calls Don Johnson, was her German team partner at the 2013 and 2015 European Championships as well as the 2013 World Cup Final. The horse is one of five horses the 47-year-old rider actively competes at international level.

Don Johnson was not fit enough to be a prospect for Isabell to aim for this summer’s Olympics and instead she competed Weihegold OLD to lead Germany to team gold and individual silver to create an equestrian record of 10 Olympic medals.

Patrik Kittel rode Deja, his Swedish team Olympic mount, to second place on 75.920 per cent while Denmark’s Cathrine Dufour and Atterupgaards Cassidy placed third on 75.640 per cent in the pair’s first competition since the Games three months ago.
