Guardian S, a five-year-old stallion with Anky van Grunsven as an owner, has competed for the first time, ridden by Dutch young horse specialist Kirsten Brouwer.

Guardian (Moorland’s Bodyguard x Trento B) placed second in the Isah Stallion Competition at Ermelo only a week after Kirsten began riding the stallion. For video, https://www.instagram.com/p/BNKThH8g8OC/

Anky and husband, Sjef Janssen, earlier this month bought a half interest in the horse with Peter van de Sande the other owner.

“For now, we are quite satisfied with the short preparation, including Kirsten only recently partnered with him,” Anky reported. “We were especially pleased with how super he behaved during the competition, the stable and the awards ceremony. From us he gets a 10 for his character!”

The Isah Stallion competition consists of three shows to qualify for the finals at the KWPN stallion licensing in ‘s-Hertogenbosch Feb. 4.

Asked whether she planned to ride Guardian in competitions, she told dressage-news.com: “For the moment Kirsten Brouwer is competing him for us.”

Anky has not competed internationally in dressage since the 2012 Olympics in London when she rode Salinero on the Netherlands team that won bronze and gave the Dutch superstar her ninth Olympic medal, more than any other equestrian in 100 years of Games history. Isabell Werth of Germany took that record in Rio de Janeiro this summer when she boosted her total to 10 Olympic medals.

Anky, now 48 years old and the mother of two children, continued her reining activities, however, and was on the Dutch bronze medal team at the European Championships in Aachen, Germany in 2015.
