MELBOURNE, Australia, Nov. 19, 2016–Australia’s five-time Olympian Mary Hanna rode Sancette in the horse’s first competition in more than two years to capture the Equitana World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday.
Mary and the 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding scored 71.875 per cent while Mary filled second place on Umbro on 71.250 per cent in the sixth of eight World Cup events in the Pacific/Asia League. The league final to choose a single representative from Down Under for the Final in Omaha, Nebraska next March will be held in New Zealand.
Lesley Anne Taylor on Amicelli Gold scored 70.550 per cent for third place to round out the same order of finish as in the Grand Prix Friday.
This was the first World Cup victory for Mary this year. She rode Boogie Woogie in one event but then took the horse to Europe where she succeeded in earning a place on the Australian team at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
She last competed Sancette at the World Games in Normandy in 2014.
