ODENSE, Denmark, Oct. 22, 2016–The Spanish Olympic team partnership of Severo Jurado Lopez and Lorenzo won the CDI-W Grand Prix Saturday to open the Western European World Cup series heading to the final in Omaha next March.

Severo and the 10-year-old gelding ranked 14th in the world, scored 74.440 per cent for the victory in the first of nine qualifiers in Western Europe over the next five months.

Sweden’s Rose Mathisen on Zuidenwind was runnerup on 72.300 per cent with seven-time Swedish Olympian Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfvén and Paridon Magi placing third on 72.240 per cent.

Severo and Lorenzo were competing for the first time since placing fifth overall at the Rio Olympics in August. The pair began Big Tour in February this year.

The Freestyle that will decide points in the qualification process to select to nine combinations from Western Europe for the final is scheduled for Sunday.
