ERMELO, Netherlands, July 28, 2016–The Rhinelander mare Victoria’s Secret was ridden by Germany’s Beatrice Buchwald to win the preliminary test for five-year-old horses at the World Young Horse Championships Thursday that were being held outside Verden, Germany for the first time since the turn of the century.

Victoria’s Secret (Vitalis x Fidermark) was scored better than nines across the board–9.3 for trot, 9.2 for walk, 9.5 for canter with 9.2 for submission and 9.5 overall for a total score of 9.34, the only horse above 9 among the 45 that started. The dark chestnut qualified in April for the Bundeschampinate.

Beatrice is an assistant trainer to Isabell Werth, who leaves in the next few days for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where she will ride Weihegold OLD, the Oldenburg mare now 11 years old. Isabell took over the ride after Beatrice competed Weihegold to capture the Louisdor Prize German Young Horse Grand Prix Championship and the Nürnberger Burg-Pokal, the German championship for seven to nine-year-old dressage horses at Prix St. Georges.

Guadeloupe-Beau, a KWPN mare (Bordeaux x Vivaldi) was ridden by the Netherlands’ Kim van der Velden to second place for a score of 8.98 made up of 9.1 for trot, 8.5  for walk, 8.8 the canter, 9.2 for submission and 9.3 overall.

Germany filled the third and fourth places with the Hanoverian gelding Lordswood Dancing Diamond (Dancier x Wolkenstein II) ridden by Anne-Kathrin Pohlmeier to a score of 8.84 and the Hanoverian stallion Nymphenburg’s First Ampere (Ampere x Weltruhm) ridden by Tessa Frank scored at 8.80.

The championships were last staged outside Verden, Germany at Arnhem, Netherlands in 2000.
