FALSTERBO, Sweden, July 9, 2016–Swedish combinations dominated the Grand Prix Special and Freestyle Saturday to clinch the Nations Cup and move to the top of the standings with one more event remaining in the trans-Atlantic series. Denmark won silver and Russia bronze in their first participation in the international team contest.
Patrik Kittel and Delaunay, a 10-year-old Oldenburg gelding, won the Freestyle after being at the top of the Grand Prix while Rose Mathisen on Zuidenwind finished first in the Special with Jennie Larsson on Zirecon Spring Flower third.
This is the first official year of the series that began in Wellington, Florida then moved to Europe. The last of six events on this year’s calendar is at the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany next week.
With the victory here, Sweden takes the lead in the standings with 47 points, followed by the United States on 43, Denmark 29, Netherlands 27 and Germany 24.
Swedish combinations Mads Hendeliowitz on Jimmie Choo SEQ won the CDI3* Grand Prix on 73.380 per cent and Emilie Nyreröd on Miata second on 71.480 per cent with Germany’s Marcus Hermes on Royal Mirage third on 70.060 per cent.
