CEDAR VALLEY, Ontario, June 18, 2016–Megan Lane and Caravella will join Belinda Trussell and Anton in filling Canada’s two Olympic spots after Chris von Martels and Divertimento posted a personal best score to win the CDI3* Grand Prix Special Saturday.
Megan and the 15-year-old KWPN mare scored 71.098 per cent in the Special Saturday that was enough to give the World and Pan American Games team pair a high enough average following Friday’s Grand Prix victory.
Chris and the 14-year-old Westfalen gelding that he has been competing for only the past four months scored 71.784 per cent to win the Special in what he later described as “a championship quality ride.” The pair had posted a personal best in placing second to Megan and Caravella in the Grand Prix.
The average of the four best Grand Prix/Special results for Megan and Caravella in the qualifying period from the beginning of this year to July 3 edged out their 2014 World Games team mates Karen Pavicic and Don Daiquiri that had moved to the top of the leaderboard just a week ago with results from a British Columbia CDI.
While two weeks remain to the July 3 qualifying deadline, no more international events are scheduled for North America.
