OLIVA NOVA, Spain, June 4, 2016–Beatriz Ferrer-Salat and Delgado won the Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday to clinch the Spanish Championships with Severo Jesús Jurado López on Lorenzo the reserve champions.

Beatriz and the 15-year-old Westfalen gelding, who took Freestyle bronze at last year’s European Championships, captured the Freestyle with a score of 83.500 per cent to take their average for winning all three Grand Prix level tests to 79.187.

Severo and the 10-year-old Lorenzo, that made their CDI Grand Prix debut in February, received 79.375 per cent in the Freestyle that boosted their three-event average to 75.762.

Borja Carrascosa Martínez on Wonder were third on 74.550 per cent in the Freestyle that was enough to move the pair into third overall after placing fourth in the Grand Prix and fifth in the Special.

José Daniel Martín Dockx and the American-owned Grandioso, the second ranked Spanish combination, did not compete in the championships as the 2012 Olympic team horse recovers from an injury but is expected to be back next month.

The Spanish team for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in August will be named after the Nations Cup in Aachen, Germany July 13-17.

Juan Matute, Jr., the Florida high schooler, on Dhannie Ymas won the Young Rider individual with a score of 72.237 per cent to remain undefeated in the youth divisions.

The 18-year-old son of three-time Spanish Olympian Juan Matute was ninth in the Grand Prix on Don Diego Ymas.
