GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Mar. 26, 2016–A new World Cup champion will be crowned Sunday after 18 combinations from 11 nations perform their Grand Prix Freestyle for the annual global championship.
The Reem Acra FEI World Cup in this stadium that seats 11,200 is the eighth time being staged here since it was first held 31 years ago as the Final of the European winter indoor season. It embraces four leagues–two in Europe and one each in North American and the Pacific.
Charlotte Dujardin of Great Britain and Valegro won the last two Finals but opted not to defend their title as the pair focus on preparing for the summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The Netherlands has won the World Cup 12 times, nine by Anky van Grunsven. Germany has taken the title eight times, Great Britain, Switzerland and the United States twice with Denmark, Finland, France and Sweden once each.
The Final can be seen live on FEI TV, a subscription service.
