DOHA, Qatar, Mar. 5, 2016–Judy Reynolds on Vancouver K produced their best ever musical performance to place second behind Swedish Olympian Patrik Kittel on Deja in the CDI5* Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday that appeared certain to give Ireland an individual start at the summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Judy Reynolds and Vancouver, a 14-year-old KWPN gelding scored 79.700 per cent and coupled with the 74.302 per cent in the Grand Prix a day earlier that was also a personal best moved the pair that are popular on the international circuit high enough up the rankings to assure an Olympic start for Ireland.

The previous best result for Judy, 34 and Vancouver was 77.425 per cent posted at Lyon, France last October. The pair began Big Tour in May 2014.

The qualifying procedures that required only the best four show results over the past year led to a last-minute rash of competitions around the world that produced some controversial results and threw into doubt qualification of several combinations including Judy and Vancouver that were consistent.

Patrik and the 12-year-old Swedish Warmblood mare scored 82.550 per cent for the win after taking the Grand Prix a day earlier.

Germany’s Jessica von Bredow-Werndl on Zaire were third on 79.475 per cent.

Alice Oppenheimer of Great Britain on Headmore Delegate won the Grand Prix Special with a personal best score of 72.431 per cent and the first international victory for the pair since starting Big Tour in July 2013.

Sweden’s Marina Mattson on Beckham was second on 67.627 per cent and Julie Leyten-De Deken of Belgium on Kingsley Lucky Dance third on 66.725 per cent.
