LIER, Belgium, Mar. 2, 2016–Inna Logutenkova and Don Gregorius were awarded a persona best score to win the CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle Wednesday that could move the Ukraine pair into contention for a start at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Inna and the 14-year-old Oldenburg stallion scored 77.850 per cent with two Ukrainian judges on the five-member ground jury each awarding the pair more than 80 per cent.
This CDI3* is one of eight shows around the world that provide a last opportunity before next Monday’s deadline for combinations to earn a start at the summer Olympics.
Scores at a Moscow CDI3* last weekend moved a second Russian pair, Marina Aframeeva on Vosk, into second place behind compatriot Inessa Merkulova on Mister X into the two spots for the geographic group that includes Russia an for which two places are awarded at the Games.
Terhi Stegars of Norway on Axis TSF was second in the Freestyle on 75.400 per cent with Daniel Pinto of Portugal on Santurion de Massa third on 74.025 per cent.
Spencer Wilton riding Super Nova II won the CDI3* Grand Prix Special Wednesday, their first competition in almost six months for the pair seeking a place on Great Britain’s Olympic team.
Spencer and the 13-year-old British-bred Hanoverian gelding scored 73.490 per cent with Belgium’s Jeroen Verwimp on Tiamo second on 73.196 per cent and compatriot Fanny Verliefden on Annarico third on 72.902 per cent
