BURBANK, California, Feb. 27, 2016–Günter Seidel on Zero Gravity won the Mid-Winter World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday in which only three combinations started.
Günter and the 12-year-old KWPN gelding scored 73.400 per cent for the win over Michelle Reilly on Umeeko on 71.725 per cent for second and Tracy Lert on Udo on 68.825 per cent for third.
The result for Günter of Cardiff, California and the horse he has been competing in his home state for the past year gives the pair a World Cup score of 75.500 puts them in contention for an invitation to the World Cup Final in Gothenburg, Sweden next month. The North American League which is allocated two places in the Final is decided by the average of the two best scores.
Steffen Peters on Legolas is at the top of the NAL with an average of 82.687 with Denmark’s Mikala Gundersen on My Lady and based in Wellington, Florida second on 78.887 and Laura Graves on Verdades third with 75.125.
Steffen of San Diego, California has said he does not plan to go to the Final as he wants to concentrate on Olympic selection while Laura Graves of Plymouth, Florida has not yet decided whether to go if she is invited. Mikala is not a North American citizen and would have to be invited to fill an extra starting place.
The last NAL World Cup qualifier is scheduled for Wellington Mar. 3-6.
