WELLINGTON, Florida, Feb. 25, 2016–Lara Griffith riding Rubin Al Asad with “more British grit” posted a personal best Grand Prix score of 72.280 per cent competing in the Adequan Global Dressage Festival World Cup Thursday.

Lara and the 14-year-old Hanoverian gelding in their second winter on the Florida circuit tied for fifth place in the Grand Prix of 50 combinations from 17 nations spread over two days.

The previous best for the 27-year-old rider on the horse owned by the Bechtolsheimer family was 72.100 per cent at Le Mans, France last October. Lara is assistant trainer to Laura Tomlinson, the British Olympic team gold and individual bronze medal rider.

In the unseasonably nippy (for Florida) and windy weather that Lara joked was more like England she said she changed her plan from previous rides on Rubin Al Asad. The horse had more energy and exuberance, she said, which the judges liked.

“We had a different strategy,” she said, “to show a bit more British grit… we were very determined going to prove a point to earn the marks. He was super.”
