NÜRNBERG, Germany, Oct. 31, 2015– Carlos 609, an eight-year Rhinelander gelding, was ridden by Germany’s reigning professional champion rider, Heiner Schiergen, on Saturday to win the last of 15 qualifiers for the Nürnberger Burgpokal Final in Frankfurt in December.
Heiner and Carlos (Carabas x Weltmeyer) scored 74.122 per cent to capture the Prix St. Georges Special to qualify for the year-end German championship for Small Tour horses seven to nine years old. The series was launched in 1994 and German superstar Isabell Werth has won the championship three times, more than any other rider.
Carlos is owned by the Family Erbe and won gold at the European Junior Championships earlier this year ridden by the 16-year-old Hannah Erbe.
Isabell and the eight-year-old Sorento 15 placed second on 71.780 per cent with Nicole Casper on Dallas third on 70.488 per cent.
The series of qualifiers began last April and the winners of each event will be invited to the final at the Frankfurt finale at Christmas.
