SYDNEY, Oct. 24, 2015–Mary Hanna and Umbro captured the World Cup Grand Freestyle Saturday night for the third victory in Pacific League Final qualifying events. The sole combination to be invited from the Pacific League to the Word Cup Final in Sweden next March will be decided at a head-to-head league final in Australia in December.
The Australian Olympic team veteran and the 14-year-old KWPN gelding scored 75.500 per cent that was the highest World Cup Freestyle score in 2015 but below the pair’s best of 75.950 per cent logged last February in a CDI3*.
Brett Parbery and DP Weltmieser, who won the Grand Prix Friday, posted a personal best 74.700 per cent for second place.
Mary and Umbro were placed first by three of the five judges, two of them Australians, while Brett and Weltmieser were awarded winning marks by two judges, Janet Foy of the United States and Alban Tissot of France.
New Zealand’s Julie Brougham on Vom Feinsten was third on 72.100 per cent.
This was the last of four World Cup events in Australia to qualify for the league final in December where the winner will be sole combination from the Pacific League invited to go to the Final in Gothenburg, Sweden next March. However, horses and riders that did not compete in World Cup events can also be invited to the league final.
The Pacific League is the only one of the four geographic divisions that stages a league final–the Western and Central European leagues determinate finalists by points accumulated in a series of events while the North American League’s two places are decided by the average of the best two scores.
