SYDNEY, Oct. 23, 2015–Brett Parbery and DP Weltmieser scored above 70 per cent in the Grand Prix for the first time to win the Australian Championships World Cup Grand Prix Friday.
Brett and the 13-year-old Australian-bred gelding (Weltmeyer x Dutch Courage) scored 70.820 per cent for the win over Australia’s veteran Olympian Mary Hanna on Umbro in second on 70.380 per cent and Maree Tomkinson on her World Games team mount Diamantina in third on 69.120 per cent.
Brett and Weltmieser competed at international Small Tour for a year before launching their Grand Prix career in May last year. This was the fourth victory in 18 starts since then, all of them in Australia
He is looking for Weltmieser him to his first Olympics, at Rio de Janeiro next summer. He competed Victory Salute, an Australian stallion, on his country’s team at the 2010 World Games in Kentucky.
The one-time rodeo rider who competed on the American circuit has also been the dressage coach for the Australian eventing team.
