AACHEN, Germany, Aug. 16, 2015–Atterupgaards Orthilia competed by Great Britain’s Fiona Bigwood in the 10-year-old mare’s first championship, was withdrawn from the European Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday with what the British Equestrian Federation described as “a slight skin reaction causing sensitivity.”
The Oldenburg mare that became one of the stars of these Europeans with an eighth place finish in the Nations Cup Grand Prix in which Great Britain won the silver medal then placed ninth in the Special on Saturday to move up to the final 15 for the Freestyle.
British Chef d’Equipe Richard Waygood said: “Unfortunately due to a slight skin reaction causing sensitivity, the decision has been made to withdraw Tillie [Atterupgaards Orthilia], ridden by Fiona Bigwood, from today’s competition.
“We are obviously all disappointed but it’s nothing serious and we’ll always put the mare’s welfare first. We’re looking forward to seeing them out again in the not too distant future.”
