HICKSTEAD, England, July 17, 2015–A successful international Grand Prix debut by Carl Hester on Wanadoo as the top scoring individual combination put Britain in the lead in the CDIO3* Nations Cup with Denmark standing second and Sweden third with two more phases to go.
The Olympic gold medal rider and the 14-year-old Hanoverian stallion scored 73.160 per cent that was enough to give Great Britain the lead over Denmark with Anders Dahl on Wie Atlantico was second individually on 70.700 per cent and Sidsel Johansen on Alibi D third on 69.540 per cent.
Great Britain’s total of Carl and Wanadoo on 73.160 per cent, Alice Ruth Oppenheimer on Headmore Delegate on 68.660 per cent and Henriette Andersen on Warlocks Charm on 68.380 per cent as only the top three scores count gave the team 210.200.
Denmark with Sune Hansen on Charmeur on 65.780 per cent added to the results of Anders and Sidsel gave them a total of 206.020. Sweden’s results were Ebba von Essen on Yantuge on 68.440 per cent, Malin Hamilton on Fleetwood at 68.200 per cent and Maria von Essen on Ferdi at 66.260 per cent gave the team a total of 202.900 per cent.
The United States had planned to field a team but Katherine Bateson-Chandler on Alcazar was the sole American starter with a score of 67.520 per cent after one combination scratched when the horse developed a skin infection and a third pair went home early.
This Nations Cup is in three phases–Grand Prix with some pairs moving to the Special and some to the Freestyle to determine the eventual winner.
The Nations Cup at Dressage at Hickstead is the sixth and final event of the year in what is the third season of a “test” series to create a circuit with competitions on both sides of the Atlantic.
