HAGEN, Germany, July 11, 2015–Kristina Bröring-Sprehe and Desperados FRH posted another victory and did it with a persona best score to win the CDIO5* Grand Prix Special Saturday to keep alive the German pair’s undefeated year.
Kristina and the 14-year-old black Hanoverian stallion scored 83.824 percent to eclipse the previous Grand Prix Special high of 83.000 per cent posted in March.
Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Unee BB, likely to be team mates of Kristina and Desperados at the European Championships next month, also notched a personal best score of 79.490 per cent in their first Grand Prix Special of the year as they concentrated on the Freestyle that won the pair the bronze medal at the World Cup Final in Las Vegas in April.
Isabell Werth on Don Johnson FRH completed the German sweep of the top three places with a score of 78.784 per cent.
Denmark’s Olympic partnership of Anna Kasprzak on Dennperignon placed fourth on 76.843 per cent while Russia’s Inessa Merkulova on the flamboyant Mister X placed fourth on 76.647 per cent, also a personal best for the pair that were one of the crowd favorites at the World Cup Final in Las Vegas in April.
Desperados and Kristina, who married her long time boyfriend in a civil ceremony two weeks ago and plans a celebratory event after the Europeans, have emerged as the top German combination this year with seven straight wins that have included their highest Grand Prix score in three years and then Saturday’s Grand Special personal best.
The duo are competing in the Nations Cup CDIO5* classes while Totilas ridden by Matthias Alexander in their comeback after a year out with injury have been in the CDI4* which they won Friday with a score above 80 per cent.
Kristina made the German silver medal team at the London Olympics in 2012 while she was still a college student and since then has remained on the championship team at the 2012 Europeans where Germany won gold and repeated their top of the podium finish at last year’s World Games in Normandy.
