Sweden Takes Commanding Lead in Falsterbo CDIO5* Nations Cup

FALSTERBO, Sweden, July 10, 3025–Dominating performances by Tinne Vilhelmsson-Silfvén on Don Auriello and Patrik Kittel on Deja gave Sweden a commanding lead in the three-phase CDIO5* Nations Cup after the Grand Prix on Friday. The Netherlands and Germany were neck and neck for second and third places, Denmark fourth, the United States fifth and Spain sixth.

Tinne and the 13-year-old Hanoverian gelding that she competed at the 2012 Olympics and 2014 World Games scored 77.680 per cent to lead the individual rankings on 77.680 per cent with team mate Patrik Kittel on the 11-year-old Swedish Warmblood mare equalling their highest Grand Prix result of 77.500 per cent to be runnerup.

The Netherlands’ Patrick van der Meer on Uzzo was third individually on 73.720 per cent with fellow Dutch combination of Katja Gevers on Thriller on 72.260 per cent to put them into second place on the team standings in the Nations Cup.

In the format for this competition, the fifth in the series of six in the third year of a “test” by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI)–a maximum of two combinations move on to the Special and up to two to the Freestyle to decide the overall medals.

Two Nations Cups were being contested this same weekend with the other in Hagen, Germany as well as the Pan American Games in Canada, scheduling that has caused considerable criticism. The United States is fielding a team that includes its two top Grand Prix combinations at the Pan Ams as well as teams in both Nations Cups all at the same time.
