Totilas was ridden by Matthias Alexander Rath (watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PczRAWS7Ae4) Sunday at a national show in Hulten, Netherlands, in preparation for the Nations Cup competition in Hagen, Germany next month that will determine members of the team for the European Championships in August.

The performance at the competition that had been foreshadowed by coach Janssen was not scored.

The ride in an outdoor competition arena was the first by Matthias and the 15-year-old KWPN stallion in almost a year at the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany.

The pair won both the Nations Cup CDIO5* Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Special but withdrew before the Freestyle and has not been competed since.

The competition career of the black stallion that Matthias took over as the rider from Edward Gal after the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky in 2010 has been marked by injuries that prevented the duo from competing at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the World Games in Normandy last year.

However, the horse has had a full schedule of breeding under the ownership of Ann-Katrin Linsenhoff, Matthias’s stepmother, and Paul Schockemöhle of Performance Sales International, the world’s largest sport horse breeding operation.
