ACHLEITEN, Austria, June 5, 2015–Steffen Peters on Rosamunde, competing in their final show of the Pan American Games squad European tour, won the CDI4* Grand Prix Friday, in their ninth start since the eight-year-old mare began her international Big Tour career four months ago.
Steffen and the Rhinelander mare owned by Akiko Yamazaki as is Legolas his other Grand Prix mount, scored 74.560 per cent with all five judges placing the American pair first over Victoria Max-Theurer on Eichendorff on 73.560 per cent. Vici’s family organizers the competition at their picturesque estate.
Switzerland’s Marcel Krinke Susmelj on Smeyers Molberg was third on 71.740 per cent while the USA’s Kasey Perry of Orangevale, California on Trøstruplund’s Scarlet was fourth on 70.800 per cent and Kathleen Raine of Murieta, California on Breanna fifth on 68.880 per cent.
Since beginning their international Grand Prix career at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida in February, Steffen of San Diego, California and Rosamunde won five of their six starts on both coasts of the United States.
The duo placed second in two competitions at Munich’s Pferd International three weeks ago which kicked off the European swing of eight horses contending for a place on the American team for the Pan Ams in Toronto in just over a month.
Steffen told dressage-news.com he expects Legolas with the gelding’s higher scores to be selected as one of the two Grand Prix horses for the continental championship that will determine a single team starting place at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The other combination will be Laura Graves of Geneva, Florida on her Verdades who was excused from the European tour so she could train intensively with Debbie McDonald in Hailey, Idaho after a successful World Cup Final debut in Las Vegas in April.
However, Rosamunde could be picked as a reserve.
The Pan Ams provide for a unique format of mixed Big and Small Tour teams==to qualify for the Olympics a team must include a Grand Prix combination but many nations in Central and South America do not have enough if any Grand Prix pairs but want to participate in the major championship for the Americas.
The Small Tour pairs will compete in the Prix St. Georges Saturday and Intermediate 1 Sunday.
