HAGEN, Germany, April 24, 2015–The German Olympic and World Games team partnership of Kristina Sprehe and Desperados won the Horses & Dreams CDI4* Grand Prix Friday with a score of 80.780 per cent, breaking the 80 per cent mark for the second time this year and the highest Grand Prix result for the pair in three years at this same event.
The score for Kristina and the 14-year-old black Hanoverian stallion was more than 4 1/2 percentage above the fellow German Olympic pair of Anabel Balkenhol on Dablino FRH with 76.160 per cent with Sweden’s Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfvén on Don Auriello in third on 74.940 per cent.
The score above 80 per cent for Kristina and Desperados came despite an award of 75.400 per cent from Christoph Umbach of Luxembourg while the marks from the other four judges were a low of 81.700 per cent to a high of 82.500 per cent.
Kristina, 28 years old, began competing her family’s Desperados in 2011 and while still attending college became one of the top combinagtions in the world–currently ranked No. 8.
The pair scored 80.760 per cent in the Grand Prix at Dortmund, Germany in early March and joined Great Britain’s Charlotte Dujardin on Valegro and Edward Gal of the Netherlands on Glock’s Undercover as the only combination to be awarded 80 per cent at Grand Prix so far this year.
Their German champioship team accomplishments include the silver medal at the 2012 Olympics in London and gold at the 2013 Europeans and the 2014 World Games in Normandy that qualified Germany for a start at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The pair are seeking a place on the German team for the Europeans to be held at home at Aachen in mid-August.
This was the first start for Don Auriello, a 13-year-old Hanoverian gelding, this year. Tinne partnered with Don Auriello at the London Games in 2012 and last year’s World Games. Although she took the horse to Florida for the winter to maintain fitness, she did not compete him there this year–Don Auriello began his Grand Prix career in Florida in 2011.
