Lars Petersen and Mariett made it to the World Cup Final by placing high enough in the North Americna League where Danish rider competes as a resident of Wellington, Florida. Mariett is a Danish Warmblood mare whose future as a show horse appeared over when she tore off a hoof. But owner Marcia Pepper let Lars take a year to rehabilitate the horse and the pair have since been on the Danish World Games team in 2014, earned more than $100,000 at Florida's Global Dressage Festival and qualified for their second World Cup Final. © 2015 Ken Braddick/dressage-news.com

LAS VEGAS, April 15, 2015–Horses from nine countries are competing in the Reem Acra FEI World Cup Final in Las Vegas, the 30th staging of the annual individual championship.

The nations represented are Denmark, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Sweden and the United States from three of the four geographic regions that comprise the World Cup qualifying series–Western Europe, Central Europe and North America. There is no combination from the Pacific League.

The four different leagues have different qualifying criteria–the Western and Central European leagues are determined by points awarded for placings in competitions within their leagues but limited results from shows outside their home leagues.

The North American League is decided on the average of the two best scores–a formula that most participants say they want changed to the same points system as the Europeans weighted to accomodate local needs while the Pacific League is the only region that is decided by a league final usually held in Australia with no regard to scores by riders from the area based elsewhere in the world.
