Olivia LaGoy-Weltz, a contender with Rassing’s Lonoir for a small tour place on the United States’ Pan American Games team, has been awarded the $25,000 Carol Lavell Advanced Dressage Prize.
Olivia was selected for the award “because she displays the characteristics and qualities of being a talented, committed, qualified rider whose plans are to reach and excel at the elite, international standards of high performance dressage,” The Dressage Foundation that administers the grant stated in the announcement Friday.
Olivia, 31 years old, is based in Middleburg, Virginia and Wellington, Florida. She is the owner and head trainer of LivDressage.
Olivia and Lonoir, an 11-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding, are ranked sixth on the U.S. standings for selection to the squad of four Big Tour and four Small Tour combinations to go to Europe to vie for a place on the team for the Pan Ams in Toronto in July. The pair have started schooling the Grand Prix.
“I am both honored and grateful to have been chosen as the recipient of this year’s Carol Lavell Advanced Dressage Prize,” Olivia said. ” The next two years are critical to Lono’s development; the timing could not be better. I am grateful to Mrs. Lavell, The Dressage Foundation, and all of its supporters for making this grant possible.”
Carol Lavell will present the Prize plaque to Olivia and Lonoir at the 2015 Palm Beach Dressage Derby in Wellington next week.
Carol, an Olympic and Pan American Games medalist, established her Advanced Dressage Prize Fund in 2009 as a remembrance of her mother, May Cadwgan, and in honor of her father, Gordon Cadwgan. Since then, at time, nine awards totaling $225,000 have been made in support of U.S. high performance dressage.
Details about The Dressage Foundation’s Carol Lavell Advanced Dressage Prize is available at www.dressagefoundation.org. Application deadline is Dec. 13 each year.
