WELLINGTON, Florida, Jan. 9, 2015–Katharina Stumpf of Austria and Nymphenburg’s Love were the debut combination in the world’s first international CDI Amateur event Friday, winning the event over two other foreign riders at the Adequan Global Dressage.

Katharina, who has been competing in dressage in Wellington since the launch of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival now in its fourth year, scored 66.474 per cent from the five-member ground jury.

Chile’s Virginia Yarur on El Dorado, who rode  was second on 65.789 per cent and Sonia Zugel on Afago Da Reposa was third on 61.079 per cent.

The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) approved the CDI Amateur division starting this year after a lengthy campaign by American amateur rider John McGinty

“I am so happy to have had not only the chance to have a good ride with a lot of fun and a willing and giving horse although we had some misunderstandings in the changes,” Katharina said after the ride in the opening event of the 12-week Global Festival at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.

“But I also had the honor to inaugurate the new international amateur format from the FEI and I hope they are satisfied with me.

“I am so glad that we amateurs now have the chance to compete against each other with the incentives to earn ribbons in an atmosphere of great and impressive international shows like the GDF in Wellington where you can still learn and compare with the international elite.

“I hope for a big future for this tour with a lot of competitors and I am looking forward to participate at many more tests of this class during my season with my horses here in Wellington.”
