AACHEN, Germany, July 23, 2014–Dressage will be center stage in the 40,000-seat main stadium at the 2015 European Championships of five disciplines that supplants the World Equestrian Festival CHIO.

The Europeans will include championships of dressage, driving, jumping, reining and vaulting as well as a CICO3* events to be staged in the same location for the first time in history.

The event will have a budget of €24 million (US$32.3 million) is expected to draw 450,000 visitors when held from Aug. 11 to 23.

The only other time dressage was staged in the main stadium–and before the largest audience anywhere–was during the World Equestrian Games in Aachen in 2006. Unlike the world championships when the regular CHIO was also held the same summer, only a jumping event will be staged three months before the Europeans.

Details of the Europeans were released during this year’s CHIO which hosted sold-out dressage at the Deutsche Bank Stadium newly expanded to seat 6,300 spectators. That venue will be used for reining and vaulting in 2015.

The three highest ranked teams as well as the two highest ranked individuals from the European groups at the 2015 EuropeanS will qualify for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

–Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday Aug. 16
