BROHOLM, Denmark, June 8, 2014–Lone Bang Larsen and Fitou L claimed the 2015 Danish Championship Sunday when the pair won the Grand Prix Freestyle while the Florida-based Lars Petersen and Mariett were second in the Freestyle and reserve champions while Mikala Münter Gundersen on My Lady placed third in both.

Lone and the 15-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding, on the Danish team at the European Championships last year, scored 79.500 per cent in the Freestyle to clinch the championships after winning the Grand Prix earlier.

The championship results for the two Florida-based combinations were unprecedented.

Lars and Mariett, a 16-year-old Danish Warmblood mare (Come Back II x Sidney), were awarded 79.450 per cent in the Freestyle and with their Grand Prix Special victory Saturday took the reserve championship.

Mikala and My Lady placed third in the Freestyle on 77.825 per cent and were third overall in the championship. The pair placed second in the Grand Prix.

Both the Florida-based pairs are seeking to be on the Danish team at the World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France in August–that would be the first championship team for Mikala while for Lars it would be his first since the 1998 WEG in Rome.

Lars, the Olympic, world championship and World Cup star on Blue Hors Cavan, and Mariett finished this year’s Florida winter circuit at the top of the World Cup North American League but an abscess prevented the pair from starting.

Mikala, like Lars based in Wellington, Florida and My Lady, a 14-year-old Danish Warmblood mare by Michellino, are on their second European tour.

Lars has been competing Mariett since the 2012 Florida winter circuit after two years out of the show ring to allow the mare’s foot to heal when it was torn off in her stall in a freak accident. The mare had initially been bought by Marcia Pepper for her to show as an amateur but she opted to follow her horse from the sidelines.

At the Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida this winter Lars and Mariett became the top money winners and also finished atop the World Cup North American League standings with Mikala and My Lady second in both categorie

Missing from these championships were Anna Kasprzak and Donnperignon, the top Danish combination at No. 5 in the world and on the Danish teams at the 2012 Olympics and 2013 European Championship. They did not compete as the horse is recovering from an eye operation. Andreas Helgstrand and Akeem Foldager bowed out after controversy over horse abuse charges.
