ARNHEM, Netherlands, June 7, 2014–Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival N.O.P. returned to international competition for the first time since September last year to capture the Outdoor Gelderland CDI3* Grand Prix Saturday.
Adelinde and the striking 17-year-old KWPN chestnut gelding (Jazz x Ulft) appeared relaxed in scoring 77.860 per cent for the win over Edward Gal and Glock’s Voice, 12-year-old KWPN stallion also competing for the first time this year, who were second on 74.180 per cent. Hans Peter Minderhoud and Glock’s Flirt de Lully were third on 73.240 per cent.
Four of the five judges placed Adelinde and Parzival first, with Dutch judge Maarten van der Heijden awarding a high score of 83.000 per cent and Peter Engel of Germany the lowest at 74.300 per cent and also ranking them second.
This competition was the start of the pair’s campaign for a place on the Netherlandas’ team for the World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France in 11 weeks.
This the eighth year of Grand Prix competition for Adelinde and Parzival. In that time, the pair have won team and individual Olympic medals, multiple medals at three European Championships, two World Cup titles but may be equally known for being eliminated from the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky in 2010 when the horse showed blood in the mouth when he bit his tongue. Nevertheless, the pair were awarded a team gold medal.
