SAUMUR, France, May 1, 2014–Germany’s Oliver Oelrich and Doktor Schiwago won the Intermediate A at the Saumur CDI3* Thursday, while the German-based American Jennifer Hoffman rode her stallion, Rubinio NRW, to runnerup.

Oliver and the 10-year-old Don Frederico Hanoverian gelding scored 71.486 per cent while Jennifer and Rubinio were awarded 69.686 per cent for second place with France’s Marie Emilie Bretenoux on Union in third on 65.457 per cent.

This was the first time that Jennifer competed the 11-year-old black Westfalen stallion at the new medium level after two years at small tour.

Jennifer and her husband, Jürgen, relocated to Germany from Encinitas, California in late 2010 for family reasons.

As a five-year-old, Rubinio (Rubin Royal x Florestan I) was ridden by Jennifer in the 2008 World Young Horse Championships in Verden, Germany. The stallion was the sole U.S. entry as a six-year-old in the 2009 championships–which would have made the horse the first by an American to compete in two of the Verden events–but was scratched when the horse broke a splint bone just days earlier.

Jennifer moved to Austria for a year but went back to Germany last fall and resumed training the stallions Florentinus V, Instertanz V and Ratzinger V owned by Letter Berg stud.

Germany, led by Sönke Rothenberger and Cosmo 59, won the Young RiderNations Cup with a total score of 4,099 points over Belgium on 3,930 for silver and Great Britain on 3,900 for bronze.

Great Britain won the Junior Nations Cup with 3,892 points, Germany won silver with 3,872.5 and France took bronze on 3,776.5 points.
