HAGEN, Germany, April 27, 2014–Hans Peter Minderhoud rode Glock’s Romanov to victory in the Horses and Dreams CDI4* Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday, breaking the string of Patrik Kittel and Deja that settled for second ahead of Denmark’s Lars Petersen and Mariett to round out the top three.
The Netherlands’ European Championship combination of Hans Peter and the 14-year-old Oldenburg stallion scored 76.475 per cent for the win that came a year since taking over the international competiton ride from his partner, Edward Gal.
It also broke the string of five straight victories at international Grand Prix level by Swedish Olympian Patrik Kittel and the 10-year-old Swedish Warmblood mare that were placed second on 76.025 per cet.
The Florida-based Lars Petersen and Mariett filled the third spot with 74.850 per cent in their first show since arriving in Europe two weeks ago as the top North American League combination for the World Cup Final. The pair had to skip the championship because of an abscess on the mare’s foot.
“I was extremely happy with Mariett,” Lars said of the 16-year-old Danish Warmblood mare on whom he placed third in the Grand Prix Saturday and owns with Marcia Pepper.
“I still need to clean up my pirouettes and canter half-pass line but overall I’m happy with her.”
He described as “amazing” the competition organized by Ullrich Kasselmann that “takes complete care of the horses, riders, owners and grooms.”
Lars and Mariett are scheduled to compete at Hamburg at the end of May then go to the Danish championships to seek a place on Nations Cup teams that could put the pair in contention for a spot on Denmark’s squad for the World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France in August.
Australia will be the theme of the 2015 Horses & Dreams. The show features a nation each year with traditional national equestrian performances and food along with the staff and volunteers outfitted in clothing designed around the concept.
