Orion, competed in recent years by Pia Fortmuller after being ridden by Leslie Reid on the Canadian team at the 2008 Olympics has died of colic in Germany at the age of 18 years.

The Dutch Warmblood gelding (Jazz x Consul) was competed on the Canadian team at the Beijing Olympics.

Leslie rode the horse at Grand Prix in several California CDIs in 2008 and Steffen Peters also competed the horse there in 2009.

Pia Fortmuller bought the horse and competed throughout Europe from 2010 through last November, including some of the top shows such as the World Equestrian Festival at Aachen, Germany and the German Masters at Stuttgart.

Pia said in a statement: “It is extremely difficult to put this in writing, because it means that I have to accept that my Orion, my teammate, my star, my warrior has passed away. Orion was still in top form right up to his last day and it is a shock to absolutely everyone how suddenly he has left us.”

Correction: An earlier version incorrectly stated that Orion competed at the 2003 Pan American Games. The horse was competed at the 2008 Olympics by Leslie Reid.
